Last Monday, April 29th, the Wood River Wolverines Varsity Tennis team traveled (albeit it short) north to play the varsity Cutthroat Tennis Team at the Sun Valley Courts. In Men's Singles, Peter Morwitz had a gritty 6-4, 6-3 win over Jack Keating. Meeks Sanchez-DuPont had a win due to forfeit by injury. Gabe Delgado had a dominant victory over Wood River’s #3 Jack Simon in the form of a 6-0, 6-1 win. Transitioning over to Men’s Doubles, it was a sweep with both duos winning both of their matches. William Everitt and Shea Brokaw defeated Sam Laske and Daniel Pearson, Wood Rivers #1, 6-1, 6-7, 6-0. Nils Huss and Caelin Bradshaw won both sets 6-4. On the Girl’s Singles side, both our #1, Kate Seay, and our #2, Elle Man, were swept 0-6, 0-6. For Girl’s Doubles, Kennedy Watts and Savannah Spoor lost narrowly to Abbie Heaphy and Denali Stevens 4-6, 3-6 while Frances Cherp and Avery Griffin had a comeback win against Georgia Weekes and Claire Fisher 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. The mixed doubles duo of Walker Spoor and Mallory Mauney had yet another comeback victory with final scores being 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. Lastly, Jack Colgate and Alli Rathfon lost to Aidan Burchmore and Kate Connelly 6-7, 4-4. Varsity has upcoming matches on Saturday, May 11, starting at 9am, at the Sun Valley courts so be sure to come out and support the team!
